One thing that I find really strange is that many people will go to great lengths and spend large sums of money to get accurate loadouts and simulated firearms, but will then enter an operation with long-assed hair and piercings all over. Now I know about spec-ops and "relaxed grooming standards", but that is pretty rare. And there are practical sides to it as well...anbody who has ever had or seen a kevlar ripped off in a jump knows how dangerous piercings can be, and anybody who spent weeks in the field living out of their rucksack knows how much long hair would suck balls. And try getting a decent seal on a pro mask with a beard...
Now this is not intended to start a flame war, and I'm not judging anybody's chosen appearance...hell, I served my country to protect the rights of guys to wear girl pants and eyeliner!... but it just looks so odd. It seems like getting a reasonable haircut once in a while would add much more to a realistic look than the big bucks shelled out on getting the Eagle Industries RRVs instead of the Pantac clone version ever will.
Anyways, just my opinions/thoughts....anybody else care to weigh in?

I'm all for a "realistic appearance". there's A bounty hunter event coming up here in Wisconsin on mothers day. I'm playing a bodyguard for the leader of A biker gang. So, I'm going to be running around in A tank top, plate carrier, and green Mohawk! One of my co-workers thought my 93R was fun as hell, but hes got long hair and a full beard. Not the best look for regular army, and I doubt he would shave and cut his hair for an event. HOWEVER, it can work really well for modern day "OP-FOR", or some sort of local guide or resistance. As an event host, I'm not gonna be that strict about it. Long hair and full beard playing regular army - OK Long hair and full beard playing OP-FOR - COOOL!

Lol. it's almost like this is direct at someone... coughtroubcough. Lol, i regularly play events with chin-length hair, and a very full, unkempt beard. Usually massive massive neckbeard too. But thats cause airsoft doesn't govern my outside of airsoft habits. I'm a dirty hippy outta game, I'm a dirty hippy in game.

Well... That's actually something that does kind of bug me. We're required to get a zero to one fade and whatever length on top, so long as it doesn't pass two inches in bulk or 4 inches in length. Right now mine is just able to grip, but the sides I leave skin so when I wear my cover it looks like I have a bald head.
That's always something that bugged me as well though. If you want to try so hard to recreate or replicate the real military, how about go all the way?

Most people don't go that far. And Airsoft is a day. peoples appearance outside the game and that whole 'daily life' thing is quite different... I just don't understand how people can be angered by this; the guy that started the forum is the #1 culprit, and I fully support his greasy waves and snakebites.

Damn dirty hippies here too!!! What can I do and where can I go to get away from them!?!?! AHHHHH! Just kidding.
While I like to take my hobbies seriously, often jumping in too deep, I feel that this is just a hobby so I won't and can't let it infringe on my normal life. While my general grooming standards wouldn't pass a Sgt's inspection (nor would my general physical condition for that matter) they are presentable for everyday life and the professional world that I am in more often than the airsoft world. I won't fault anyone for having a pony tail under their helmet out there.

Yeah, I really can't be one to judge myself. As I too when I started playing airsoft had reletively long hair. I guess it's not really something that I would get really pissed about... or mad over. But I definately think it takes out the realism just as much as having full tac gear armed to the tooth and wearing vans sneakers or some crazy shit.

Lol, I love my tacticool converse hi tops, but i agree, if your playing anything besides a friendly rec game, you should be wearing boots at least.

Personally, I wear combat boots to every event I go to. I'm not about to mess up my "everyday" shoes playing airsoft.

Eh, I am gonna have to agree with what 35mil has touched on already. You have to separate outside life and airsoft. While we do strive for a certain appearance, I still am a civilian and still spend most of my time in a civilian world. Besides, I cover my long hair and piercings up with a shemagh most of the time.
